Keeping Safe Online

At AFG LAW, we understand that seeking help is a big step. We also know that people may be scared about being seen entering a lawyer’s office or if people in the community or family members find out they have seen a solicitor. We want to assure you that our services are confidential and we will try and help you access legal advice safely. We have been assisting people who have experienced domestic abuse for years and will try to accommodate any requests; whether we use a ‘care of’ address, offer virtual appointments or attend at refuges or other locations.

We also recognise that there may be a risk if the person or people subjecting you to domestic abuse can see that you have looked at our website; we have therefore installed a quick exit button to help you leave our website safely but the following information is also given to help people keep safe online.

Keeping safe online

If you search for advice or for a website on the Internet you will leave a browsing history.

You should make sure that you clear this list of websites you have visited if you want to keep what you have looked for private. Alternatively you could search using the private page setting on your mobile or computer which doesn’t leave a trace of what searches you have made. It may also be safer if you can use a computer or device that no-one else can access.

You also need to be careful with emails and either delete emails you don’t want people to see or alternatively set up a different email address that is kept private

You should keep your password private as this will help you keep your information and searches confidential

There is information about keeping safe online available on different charities websites including Refuge and Women’s Aid.
