AFG Law is looking for an experienced Civil Litigation Solicitor to join our Dispute Resolution team in Bolton.
This is an opportunity to work across a broad range of contentious matters, handling complex disputes and providing practical, commercially focused legal advice to individuals and businesses.
We are looking for someone who can confidently manage their own caseload, build strong relationships with clients and contribute positively to the wider team.
The successful candidate will have experience handling civil litigation matters through the different stages of the dispute resolution process, with the ability to assess legal and commercial risks, develop effective strategies and work towards the best possible outcomes for clients.
While technical ability and experience are important, we are particularly interested in finding someone who enjoys working collaboratively, supports their colleagues and wants to play an active role in the continued development of our Dispute Resolution department.
The role
You will manage a varied caseload of civil and commercial litigation matters, advising clients from the initial stages of a dispute through to settlement or court proceedings where necessary.
The position offers exposure to a broad range of disputes, including:
- Landlord and tenant disputes
- Director and shareholder disputes
- Contractual disputes
- Employment disputes
- Debt recovery and contested debt claims
- Contentious probate and inheritance disputes
- Land and property disputes
- Professional negligence claims
You will be expected to take ownership of your matters while working closely with colleagues across the firm, drawing on their experience and contributing your own knowledge where appropriate.
Key responsibilities
As a Civil Litigation/ Dispute Resolution Solicitor at AFG Law, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing your own caseload of contentious matters from initial instruction through to resolution.
- Providing clear, strategic and commercially focused legal advice to clients.
- Assessing the merits of claims and defences, identifying potential risks and advising clients on their options.
- Drafting and reviewing pleadings, witness statements, correspondence and other legal documentation.
- Representing clients during mediations, settlement negotiations and court hearings where appropriate.
- Conducting legal research and advising on complex or developing areas of law.
- Exploring opportunities to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
- Maintaining strong client relationships and delivering a consistently high standard of client care.
- Working collaboratively with other departments where matters require expertise across different areas of law.
- Supporting business development activities, including networking, developing professional relationships and contributing to marketing initiatives.
- Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, firm policies and risk management procedures.
About you
We are looking for an experienced solicitor who combines strong litigation skills with a practical approach to resolving disputes.
You should be confident managing matters independently while recognising the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
- Experience managing civil litigation matters through all stages of the dispute resolution process.
- Strong drafting, advocacy and negotiation skills.
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to identify practical solutions for clients.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality legal advice.
- Experience using legal case management systems and research platforms.
- A proactive approach to networking, business development and maintaining client relationships.
- A willingness to share knowledge, support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
Experience across several of the dispute types listed above would be advantageous.
