NWLA seminar

AFG LAW’s Matthew Taylor hosts seminar in collaboration with NWLA

Last week, Matthew Taylor from our Dispute Resolution team at AFG LAW hosted an NWLA (North West Landlords Association) seminar on the topic of considering the proactive legal and financial steps which landlords should take, and the importance of appreciating how these two areas interlink with each other.

This seminar, in collaboration with the NWLA, was held in Bolton’s Octagon Theatre and included expert speakers from AFG LAW, Clear Vision Wealth Management, the Ralstan Group, and Triple Point. Expert speakers covered topics such as the importance of having a Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney as a landlord, the benefits of taking advice from expert financial planners when preparing such legal documents, Inheritance tax planning, as well as tax-related issues and property transactions.

The central message concerned the importance at looking at these various topics together in the round, rather than in isolation.

Informative talks were given by Rebecca Mannion (AFG LAW), Lucy Dolan (Triple Point), Andy Lee (The Ralstan Group), John Lyons (Clear Vision Wealth Management), and Hamza Mustafa (AFG LAW).

Rebecca Mannion is an experienced Licenced Conveyancer who has been working in our Residential Property team since 2017. She focused her talk on the main asset of landlords – their properties – and how it is important to consider the properties themselves, and that the appropriate steps are taken to ensure they are purchased correctly, and as free of legal restrictions as possible. The appropriate steps are essential to landlords exit strategy when they are looking to sell or downsize. To get in touch with Rebecca and the Residential Property team, email info@afglaw.co.uk or call 01204 377600.

Hamza Mustafa is the Head of our Private Client department at AFG LAW. His expert input focussed on the importance of having a Will in place, together with Lasting Powers of Attorney. Hamza has been a part of AFG since 2021 when he joined as a solicitor, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge in Private Client related matters.

Matthew Taylor, the seminar host, is an expert on Landlord and Tenant matters and has had a relationship with the NWLA for a number of years, providing advice to their members across many things Landlord and Tenant related in this period. Matthew is an Associate Solicitor in our Dispute Resolution team and has been at AFG LAW since 2013. He has previously given talks to NWLA and NRLA (National Residential Landlords Association) members on matters such as the Renters’ (Reform) Bill, the Tenant Fees Act and how this impacts landlords, and procedural pitfalls landlords should be aware of when evicting tenants and issuing possession proceedings themselves.

If you are a landlord and require advice on any of the above matters, get in touch with our widely experienced team today by calling 01204 377600 or emailing info@afglaw.co.uk and our team will be more than happy to assist you.
