Asbestosis Explained

Asbestosis is caused by breathing in asbestos fibres, which leads to the lungs losing elasticity and struggling to work as efficiently as before.  Asbestosis is typically a disease suffered by those who have suffered from long-term exposure to asbestosis.  Mesothelioma can be caused by smaller amounts of asbestos exposure.

People who are exposed to asbestos commonly do the following jobs:
•    Plumbing
•    Lagging
•    Demolition

The symptoms of asbestosis include shortness of breath, a tight chest which is painful and a cough.  In order to diagnosis asbestosis your doctor may have to carry out a biopsy to assess some of the tissue from your lungs.  If diagnosed with asbestosis, unfortunately there is no cure.  The symptoms of the condition can, however, be alleviated with medication and oxygen therapy.
